The Governor's Cup Race was a success.  I was able to qualify 10th, in a 32 car field.  Very glad to be in the top half!  The track was great, the weather was great, and I was racing with a good group of friends.  My qualifying times were a 9.72 then a 9.67.  I would have liked to hone in closer on the 2nd qualifier, and it was possible, as I pulled the chute a tad early, as to not go under the index.  Bad call.  First round, I raced a friend I've raced before, and it was a close race.  I nudged him out by a slim .057 margin.  The second round, I was paired up with the only other blower car in C/G.  He was tardy leaving, and I was able to get out on him.  At 1,000' I looked back to no one there, and clicked it early.  The margin was .140 seconds.  The third round it was my turn to be tardy.  I had a .108 light against Scott's .058 light.  We ran neck & neck down track, and I took the stripe by about 2 feet (I was ahead at the finish line by 2'), but because of my late light, I ran a 9.57 on a 9.60 index, so Scott went on to the 4th round, and Means Racing went home.  It was great, we all had a great time, and the car ran perfect.

I have finally located the tune-up that nets a consistent 9.6x pass.  I feel confidant that we'll have a good showing at the Governor's Cup race in September.  I have posted videos on the video page.  Please take a look and let me know what you think.  The car is painted, it is handling great, and is finally starting to show some potential.  Thanks for checking in.  After the next race, I'll post our results.  Cya then!!!

MRE has attended the FIRST race in the new car.  After months of planning & building we forgot the loose nut behind the wheel.  MRE took the hot rod to the Nite of Fire race @ Sacramento Raceway Park.  We qualified the car #10 in the 32 car show, running a 9.72 on a 9.60 index.  2nd round of qualifying netted a flat out 9.44 @ 144mph to get a baseline on the day’s performance, as the 1st round was a shut off pass to ensure we got a spot in the field.  We were originally going to get 3 rounds of qualifying, so the logical step was to run it all out for the 2nd round.  Well, as we were in the lanes, waiting for our 3rd hit, it was cancelled.  I made a few changes to slow the car down some and waited for 1st round.  The results are below.  Greg Bagwell in his beautiful 64 Falcon powered by a large Chevy not only gated me (hey, first competitive light in 2 years!), he out ran me as I inadvertently short shifted the motor and caused a large lapse in ET.  It ran good, had good mph, and it should have been a nice race.  It felt great to get back at it.  Our next race is sometime in early August.

We have had a successful two months of testing.  We are starting to get a decent baseline on our tune-ups.  While keeping a target of 9.60 racing, We have managed to run repetitive 9.5's.  Minor changes in tune have occurred, and progress continues.  We have made a tire change, and now I'm looking to change the rear end gear to match, then testing will continue.

More news when it arrives.  Thanks a million for checking in!
